What is it about these walls?
Is it the peeling of paper or the finish that is so irresistible and attractive?
I first fell in love with these walls in The King’s Speech.
The color, the variation, the art that was created on that wall, absolutely fascinated me.
Unfortunately, it’s not something that can be easily duplicated. Truthfully, it looks its best when found this way, in an old house or behind some top coat.
Perhaps it’s the layers. The age. The patina that speaks to us. Perhaps it’s the texture. Or just the fact that there was history there. And it shows.
Whatever the reason, it’s everywhere I look these days: catalogs of furniture, fashion ads, etc. It seems to be the perfect backdrop for something sleek, sophisticated, polished, new, or for something timeworn and aged to perfection.
Just when we pronounced heavy, layered finishes gone and done, those peeling walls still speak to us, just as that one from The King's Speech spoke to me.
