An august building in Spain turns out to be ideal for the fashion designer's irreverent take on style.
In the living room of Carolina Herrera Baez's Madrid apartment, the sofas, which are upholstered in a linen by Bennison Fabrics and topped with pillows of a Lulu DK cotton, and the ottoman are custom made, the 19th-century bergère is covered in a fabric from Gastón y Daniela, and the 18th- century Venetian chair was a gift from her father. Herrera Baez and decorator Isabel López-Quesada designed the campaign bed, which has a mattress and bolsters of a fabric from Pierre Frey; Serge Mouille sconces illuminate Xavi Muñoz's Dreaming Eye.
The cabinetry and herringbone floors in the family room are original to the apartment; a light fixture from Herrera Baez's first Madrid apartment hangs above an iron-and-wood campaign bed, and the curtain fabric and stool are from Becara.
The table and mirror in the dining room are by López-Quesada, the chairs are upholstered in an Ian Mankin ticking, and the chandelier is by Jonathan Adler; on a custom-made console, neon lights of the children's first initials spell "love" in Spanish.
